Who Shows Up for Carry-On Suitcases for European Budget Airlines?

Nine Cuebase AI responses named Cabin Max twice and Aerolite six times. We checked the airline rules before treating a recommendation as useful.

By Cuebase · Published · Updated

A suitcase can fit one airline’s size limit and fail another’s. It can also be named by an AI answer without a link to its maker. We ran three fixed UK shopping questions through Cuebase, then checked the two airline rules that the specific prompts asked about.

This is a public category study. Cabin Max was our selected baseline. CabinZero, Samsonite, Travelpro, and Antler were the fixed comparison brands. No customer account or merchant data was used.

The questions and the completed answers

The questions below are shortened for reading. The evidence download preserves the exact UK prompts.

  1. European budget-airline carry-on: distinguish paid overhead baggage from a free under-seat bag.
  2. Ryanair Priority & 2 Cabin Bags: recommend a wheeled carry-on and state the airline and suitcase limits.
  3. WIZZ Priority: recommend a wheeled carry-on and state the airline and suitcase limits.

Each question received three completed answers: two on 13 October 2026 and one on 14 October 2026. We counted a product only when the answer positively proposed it for the shopping task. A source URL beside an answer did not count as a recommendation.

PromptWhat the answers positively namedWhat we could check
Broad European budget-airline questionCabin Max Anode once; Cabin Max Stowaway once; one answer named no product.Cabin Max’s Anode product page confirms 40 × 30 × 20 cm. We did not find a current official Stowaway product page, so its exact model and dimensions remain unknown.
Ryanair PriorityA generic Aerolite 55 × 40 × 20 cm case in all 3 answers.Ryanair’s allowance was checked. The answers did not identify one Aerolite SKU, so product construction, capacity, wheel count, and external measurements remain unknown.
WIZZ PriorityAerolite Premium PP Expandable Cabin Suitcase in all 3 answers.3 of 3 named recommendations matched the checked unexpanded product dimensions against Wizz Air’s published maximum. That is a dimensions comparison, not airline approval.

The table counts each answer once per prompt. It does not claim that the products are the best available, in stock, or suitable for every fare.

The first broad answer suggested an Anode with flexible fabric. The checked Anode is a hard-shell twin-wheel case. Its listed dimensions match the answer’s numbers, but its construction does not match that description. A dimensions check alone cannot validate every product claim.

Cabin Max appeared in two answers to the broad question and in none of the airline-specific answers. Aerolite was named six times, but it was outside the five fixed tracked brands. The tracked set is a comparison frame, not a complete list of every product the answers named.

Cuebase Share of Voice report for the nine-answer carry-on study, with Cabin Max as the selected research baseline.
Cuebase’s report rendered from the saved isolated research results. “You” identifies Cabin Max as a selected baseline, not a customer account. Cabin Max’s 100% share is 2 of 2 appearances among the five fixed tracked brands; it is not a share of every recommendation. Position means first appearance among those tracked names, not an overall ranking. Only Perplexity was tested.

Every automated tracked-domain citation was false. That does not mean the answers had no sources. The nine answers returned 90 source annotations across 21 exact URL hosts, or 20 normalised hosts after treating www.independent.co.uk and independent.co.uk as one publisher. Aerolite’s official domain appeared in six answers, while the baseline’s tracked domain did not. Samsonite’s UK domain appeared in seven answers even though none of the answers recommended Samsonite. The automated field looked for the selected samsonite.com, not www.samsonite.co.uk. Likewise, the Antler comparison domain was antler.co.uk, while returned annotations used global.antler.com. We report those observations separately because a returned URL is not the same thing as a positive product recommendation.

Check the rule before you use the recommendation

We checked these rules on 14 October 2026. Ryanair’s help page says every fare includes one small 40 × 30 × 20 cm personal bag. Its Priority & 2 Cabin Bags option adds a 10 kg bag up to 55 × 40 × 20 cm for the overhead locker. Wizz Air’s baggage page says its free carry-on is 40 × 30 × 20 cm up to 10 kg. WIZZ Priority adds a trolley bag up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 10 kg.

The airline rules answer the allowance question. They do not confirm an unnamed manufacturer case. The three Ryanair answers named a generic Aerolite case, so we cannot say which model, listed weight, shell, wheels, or measuring convention they meant. Treat that result as an idea to investigate, not a shopping instruction.

For WIZZ Priority, the answer consistently named Aerolite’s Premium PP Expandable Cabin Suitcase. Aerolite’s product page lists it at 55 × 40 × 20 cm unexpanded and 55 × 40 × 23 cm expanded, with a polypropylene hard shell, four wheels, and a TSA lock. Wizz Air says its stated dimensions exclude handles and wheels, though wheels may add up to 5 cm. The unexpanded dimensions are below Wizz Air’s published 23 cm depth maximum; the packed bag still needs to meet the airline’s rule at travel time.

What to do with a result like this

Open the airline’s current baggage page first. Then open the exact manufacturer product page. Record the fare or add-on, size limit, weight limit, product SKU, stated dimensions, and how wheels and handles are measured. If one of those facts is missing, label the fit as unknown.

Repeat this check in Cuebase

  1. Track the shopper questions that change the answer

In Share of Voice, add a broad question and the airline-, size-, or fare-specific versions that shoppers actually ask. Add the brands you want to compare.

  2. Run and save the baseline

Select Run probe now. Review the recorded brand mentions, tracked-domain citations, and first appearance among the names you chose to track. Use Export CSV for the recorded metrics.

  3. Review saved answers outside the normal report

Share of Voice records the metrics; it does not provide an answer viewer or a source-by-source answer export. For this study, we retained raw answers and source annotations in isolated research storage. A domain citation can support a background statement without recommending a product, and a named product can appear without a matching tracked-domain citation.

  4. Fix documented facts, then repeat

If a specific question exposes a missing measurement or compatibility detail, check the product record and update only facts you can support. Repeat the same question later. Do not assume a later change in an AI answer was caused by your edit.

Method, limits, and downloads

We used Cuebase’s live DataForSEO provider and isolated research storage. The engine was Perplexity Sonar, web search was requested, and each response had a 400-token output cap. The cap can truncate responses; the second-day broad-prompt answer ends mid-sentence. These were API responses, not recordings of the consumer Perplexity website. Only Perplexity was tested. The UK market was stated in the prompt; no provider geolocation was configured.

Automated tracked-domain citations can omit URLs kept in section-level source annotations, so we separately reviewed the saved annotations. Nine answers over two dates are a small snapshot. They do not measure clicks, sales, stock, fare eligibility, airport enforcement, or a permanent product ranking.
